1.
How many days will be reserved for actual painting?
We offer painting lessons or studio space 7 days during each 10 day
retreat, though most guests choose to paint, sketch and work on their
art everyday. Teachers are available to meet with you at least some
part of everyday.
2.
'Some' art supplies will be provided; which art supplies exactly, or
rather, which won't be supplied?
We supply easels, paper towels, cups and inexpensive paper for sketching.
You are expected to supply your own brushes, paints, canvases, sketch
books, pens, pencils and paper. We do have some paints and brushes on
hand for sale, but recommend you bring your own. Samara is a long way
from any art store!
3.
The hotel in Samara is steps from the ocean, could you specify the distance
please? Is there an accessible sand beach?
The hotel we are working with this year is actually right on the beach.
The beach has been called one of the lovliest and safest in Costa Rica
and has a sandy bottom. There are 2 swimming pools at this location
too if you are in the mood for a salt free dip.
4.
Do you have a photo available from the hotel room? Not yet, photos coming
soon.
5.
How far apart are the hotel and the workshop location?
Most of the classes will be taught at the hotel itself. We will venture
into town to do some painting there and of course down to the beach
too.
6.
How far from the hotel is the nearest village?
The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the town of Samara, or a $1 cab
ride.
7.
The prices mentioned on your site is $1695 USD for the 10 day retreat.
Am I correct to assume that if I would not make any excursions, this
really is an all inclusive price?
Yes, this is the price for 2 meals a day, lodging, workshop instruction,
transport for group excursions, a local-tour and transportation from
the local airport at the designated times of arrival and departure.
It does not include airfare, departure taxes, single room or hotel upgrades,
meals other than at the hotel or in country transport from San Jose.
We feel it is a great deal!
8.
How many teachers will be present during the workshop? There are 3 partners
that run CreArte and who supplement the workshops by teaching. All are
professional artists and teachers. In addition to the partners, we hire
one awesome expert to essentially "lead" the experience. Patrick
Fanning has taught with us for 3 years and will be back in 2005.
We also hope to have guest artists that live in Costa Rica come and
speak to us about their work.
9.
In general, what nationality are your participants?
We are from California and so most of our guests and teachers are also
from this region or other parts of the United States. In 2003 we also
had guests from Europe and Canada. Instruction for the workshops is
in English, though CreArte founders Erin and Ashlie are fluent in Spanish
and are happy to practice with you. We do offer the opportunity to study
Spanish. This involves an extra fee.
10.
If I want to book, how long in advance should I do that to ensure myself
of a place?
Basically the sooner the better. For the best hotel room, book early
as those with the great views fill up fast. As the date of the workshop
grows nearer, check with us to insure there is still space.
11.
How do I book a flight from San Jose to the local airport in Samara?
Please visit our getting
there page. We recommend you fly with Sansa, Costa Rica's internal
airline, and buy this ticket before your international flight as you
will have more flexibility with the international flight. Sansa flies
into Samara 2 times each day.
12.Should
I buy insurance in case, for instance, I would become sick and would
not be able to come?
The price of your retreat includes insurance in the event of an accident
or injury. We recommend
you buy a plane ticket that you are able to change if necessary.
We offer a rather lenient cancellation policy. It is outlined on the
reservation form but here are the details:
Deposit Policy: A $500 (USD) deposit is needed to reserve your space.
Remainder of Fees: Payment in full must be received no later than 30
days prior to workshop start date.
Refund Policy: For CreArte to process a refund, written statement of
cancellation must be received by mail or e-mail. Refund will be processed
according to date of POST MARK. If written cancellation is received
more than 14 days prior to commencement of retreat, a full refund, minus
a $150 processing fee, will be applied. If written cancellation is received
less than 14 days prior to commencement of retreat, no refund will be
applied but you may apply all payments towards a future CreArte Retreat,
minus $150 processing fee. Note: you must apply these fees and attend
another workshop within 12 months.
No refunds will be applied for unused portions of workshop/tour-package,
including, but not limited to: missed meals, hotel nights, sightseeing
or workshop activities.
In the event of workshop cancellation made by CreArte, a full refund
will be applied.
